Last two weeks i read “Steve Jobs” by Walter Isaacson and i fell into a rabbit hole of simple aesthetic design, i took time to create a brief of the most important concepts in this area of product design & creation, and i also experimented with it in designing two products(i guess🤷🏻♂️), although, I haven't captured everything in practice, i have them in theory and i call it "simplistic sophistication in product creation", let's dive into these concepts:
-
Philosophy of great design
simplicity is sophistication
- Always have a design system that appeals to the product of your imagination, iterate your design system a billion times
- The product design system has failed if using the product requires a user's manual
- Avoid unnecessary UI/UX element, features, effects and complexities
- Focus is sticking to an agreed design system
- Products should be immersive and intuitive, this can be achieved by creating products/features/elements that have an obvious purpose
Evaluate & Critique everything about your design
- “This is how it is done” shouldn't be a reason for you to do it how it is done
- Create new conventional standards
-
User Experience
User experience should influence the construct, flow & behavior(where possible) of the technology and not vice versa
- You are creating elevated reality for the most intelligent & complex life in the universe
- The product is the treasure and as well the treasure map
- The best interfaces are decluttered, technology should be invisible
Become obsess with perfecting details
- Don’t design a single pixel because it has to be designed , design it because you understand the purpose it will serve
- Don't settle for 0.5555px get your desired 0.55551px
- Consistency in quality should never be dishonored
- What is invisible should be designed with thesame finesse as that which is visible
-
Innovation & Creativity
Create products that don't exist
- Imagine the future, show people the future and don't rely on market research
- People always want better versions of what they have and never what is not
- True innovation is seeing what others can't see
- If Nextjs can't do it then create Futurejs
The union of hardware & software
- Have perfect knowledge of every constituent of your product
- Don't compromise vision by relying on others’ component
- You are building a universe, it will be great if you start from the molecular level, even better if you start from the atomic and best if you build your atoms
- Everything should work together seamlessly
-
Product Development
Everyone will have an idea to add to your idea, say no to a billion things, stay true to the vision
- Did you build your imagination?
- Focus is ignoring good ideas until the original vision has been achieved
- Little but exceptional is better than alot but adequate
- Defend standards with your life
A well planned project guide with explicit demands and requirements will save you every valuable resource
- Restart anything that is not perfect
- To be innovative is to create what has been impossible, plan for and embrace a million fails
- Design and prototype real intuitive models, don't just make sketches
- Kick assumptions out the window, have complete knowledge of everything that concerns your craft and product
So guys, this is the summary of what i have learned so far, i may update this maybe, i hope you find this useful, try as much as possible to put in practice this guide and see what comes out of experimenting with this, these are basically things that almost everyone know, they are just refined to be a little less ambiguous and straight to the point. I hope this helps 🙌🏼.
I am flattered if you think an AI helped.🤣
Bye 🙌🏽
