Although I hate the book as a single concept, Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Friedrich Nietzsche contains a particular idea that has caught my attention: the idea of the "Übermensch" (Overman or Superman). This concept has inspired some of the most influential and popular fictional characters of all time. The Übermensch represents an ideal man who comes to set the world free from chaos when all hope is lost. It is an idea that positions man (male) as a protector and an architect of society.
The Übermensch highlights the primal duty of the male human and the consequences of the absence of a sense of duty in the minds of men (which aligns with notions shared by many religions): the total collapse of society, accompanied by its industrial instrumentalization.
So, as the title asks, Are we there yet?
Yes, we are. We are deep in the guts of an era where male humans wear the female persona with comfort, guys (I won’t call them men) who have taken a backseat to watch lunatics desecrate art: the sacred art of integrity, chivalry, honor, responsibility, love, magnanimity, and, in its absolute form, strength. We have very few champions who have and are showing us that one of the duties of all aspiring great men should be to strengthen the collapsing walls of society by shaping themselves through learning the necessary science and art of virtuousness, critical thinking, self-mastery and the ability to transcend societal conventions.
I will end with this: There is Virtue in Action and Greatness in Being.
